What do you think about cinderella? A common and poor girl who cannot even enjoy her life? A girl who finally find her only one who is…rich, handsome, and wanted by many other girls?? A girl who wears a pair of glass shoes?? You will surprise of what I’m gonna talk about.
There’s a girl (she is for real, not fiction), who can be consider as common (but not poor), and you may consider her unpretty because of capitalism and patriarchal point of view, but she’s totally a great girl with her good personality, bravery, confident, and generosity. For a girl of her age, she has already reached so many great things and she has….believe it or not… her own prince of charm. She has a very rich, smart, and handsome boyfriend who loves her so much til sometimes he feels blindly jealous with her male friends. But the story is not about that.
On one occasion, she got to know some stars that other common people will be only able to see on TV, newspapers, or magazines. Luck for her, those stars really like her and consider her as their friend, and they love her that way. Unfortunately (but you may think it is ’fortunately’), there are two men of those stars who fall in love with her. The first one has already had a wife and two children (jerk kind of men’s personality as usual), and when he knew that she has already had a boyfriend, fiancé precisely, he withdrew himself and surrendered his feeling. The good side of him is that he is willing to let his feeling go and prefer to maintain his relationship with his wife. One thing to note, the girl does not fall in love with him.
The second man who falls in love with her is just different. He is selfish, spoiled kind of aristocrat man. He also knows that the girl has a fiancé who loves her so much and whom she loves so deeply. Unfortunately, this second man can’t let his feeling go whereas he himself has already had a girlfriend, his childhood sweetheart. He can’t promise that he can be mature in facing his feeling, and he seems to insist that he HAS TO fall in love and get the girl.
What will the other cinderella girls do then?? Or…what will other stories run for their ends?? I don’t know exactly…, but I know the end of this story…
The girl in this story rejected those two guys with the same reasons: she does not love both of them, and she has been convinced that her fiancé is the only one for her. Her fiancé and the two stars are indeed rich men, but that’s not her consideration. The three of them are handsome, but that’s not the thing. Three of them are also wanted by so many girls, but that doesn’t matter. Is that all?? No, I’m not done.
There are some other considerations which, perhaps, are not essential. But the next considerations will be very important for all girls. First, the status, and the worldview of the two stars which follows it. They are totally big stars, men with power. They can get any girls or women they like, and of course they can dumb them once they want it. The status, power, and worldview they possess shaped by their patriarchal society certainly will make you question: do they really LOVE the girl??? Why do you, or me, have to ask this?? That’s because: 1. with their status and power, they may only want to show that they can get any girls, 2. with their worldview of patriarchy, they may only consider the girl as a trophy because she’s different from other girls they know so far and for that difference they are willing to do anything to get her, but the aftermath then isn’t certain, they may dumb her or they may not want to show her as their girlfriend or special one to the world.
The second consideration is the existence of wife and girlfriend of the two stars. If the girl accepted the love of one of them and became girlfriend of one of them, she then would hurt their wife and girlfriend. She would directly legalize cheating and betrayal of love and relationship. For the sake of women, the girl has saved the wife and girlfriend of the two stars. For the sake of women, the girl has discouraged betrayal and patriarchy kind of act, in which men can cheat and betray their spouses easily without thinking the feelings of them.
This girl, both as a cinderella and perhaps…a feminist, has done something amazing. She has done what other girls must do in the same or quite the same condition. This girl, for me, is a super cinderella, a feminist…
